The Quickest Way To Make Your Internal Trainers More Effective

" Excellent course, one of the best I've attended. Kept my interest throughout, fun and I learned a lot that will inform my practice in the future. Very good course for people who are not professional trainers. "

Yvette Howard, Sheffield Early Years and Childcare Unit

Lots of organisations use internal trainers to design and deliver their training - for example, line managers or technical people. Nothing wrong with that, it's exactly how I got involved in training many years ago.

The problem is, if you're combining training with other work, you aren't always given a thorough grounding in training theory or techniques. You have to learn on the job and pick up tips from other people you work with. And you don't have time to research or keep up to date with the world of training because you've got your "proper job" to do.

In fact, you may even have to prepare for courses in your own time ( I certainly did ).

It takes a long time to become really effective. And it can be quite stressful while you're learning - I know just what it's like, I've been through it.

That's why I've designed this programme. It's a combination of everything I've learned in over 17 years of training and all the questions trainers have asked me during that time. It will cut down the learning time for internal trainers and help them to design and deliver effective training, whatever the subject matter.

" I have attended a lot of Train the Trainer courses and found that this one has been the most rewarding. It has re-energised my training. "

Helen Bennett, Intercall Europe

What makes this course different?

Three themes are central to the programme:

  1. How to get and keep participants in a receptive state for learning ( without this, nothing else will work anyway ) - many Train the Trainer courses won't cover this adequately.
  2. How to design training to cater for different learning styles
  3. How to facilitate interactive learning rather than just being a presenter

Many Train the Train courses just cover techniques to help trainers to deliver content, such as basic presentation skills and how to use visual aids. These are important. but effective training is about far more than this.

Successful trainers need to know how to:

  • facilitate learning, not just present information
  • keep learners involved and engaged by getting them in a receptive state
  • adapt their approach when necessary to suit the circumstances and the group they work with
  • help learners to retain and recall information by managing discussions and activities
  • maximise the transfer of learning from the training room back to the workplace

Course content

You'll learn:

  • How many adults have a built - in resistance to training and how to get past this
  • How the " state " of your learners is critical and how to manage this
  • How the memory works and how to use this to make your training more effective
  • How to design and structure your training, including how to select exactly the right content
  • How to be a facilitator rather than a presenter ( and why this matters)
  • How to get people involved and how to deal with unresponsive groups
  • How to manage 'difficult' behaviour
  • How to maximise your impact
  • How to use visual aids successfully ( and why it's not enough to use PowerPoint slides with words on )
  • How to debrief activities and give constructive feedback
  • How to give clear instructions ( particularly useful if you train in technical topics or " processes " )
  • A host of new techniques and tips to help you be more effective

You also get the chance to practice your skills and receive some direct feedback.

Free follow-up support and training materials

As any trainer knows, the problem with training courses is what happens afterwards. Often the answer is - nothing!

What's learned during the course often drains away as soon as people leave the room - unless it's reinforced.

Transform Your Training courses actually consist of three stages:

  1. Before the Course - I will discuss your organisation's needs and provide welcome packs and questionnaires to ensure everyone gets what they need from the course.
  2. During the Course - stimulating and challenging content, with individual feedback, and high quality training materials.
  3. After the Course - Free email and telephone follow-up and free follow-up materials in the weeks following the course to reinforce what you have learned.
